Seven teams of Junior Jumper competitors arrived at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show last week to contest the exciting Prix des States event.  This event always proves to be a memorable experience, for many of the riders this will be their first taste of team competition.. The 2015 Neue Shule/USEF National Junior Jumper Championships started on Thursday, October 8, with the Phase I Speed Class.

Victoria Colvin and Take The High Road LLC’s Cafino finished 6.6 seconds ahead of the second-place finishers. Lucy Deslauriers and Lisa Deslaurier’s Hester came in second, while Lucas Porter and Sleepy P Ranch LLC’s Phineas took third place.

Friday’s schedule consists of the Phase II Team Competition which is run in a modified Nations Cup format. Each team member jumps two rounds with the highest score of faults incurred becoming the one drop score for each team. The team carrying the least number of faults at the end of two rounds will be awarded the Prix des States Gold medal. All 7 teams and 29 individuals came forward to jump the two rounds. Team Gold went to Zone 2 who had a faultless round two, Team Silver went to Zone 1 and Bronze to Zone 4.

In phase III Lucy Deslauriers was the ultimate victor, adding nothing to her three-phase total of one fault to secure the Gold medal. In a jump-off for the Silver medal, Victoria Colvin secured the second spot on the podium with a clear jump-off round ahead of Vivian Yowan who took Bronze.

Prior to the class, Lucy Deslauriers was awarded the William C. Steinkraus Style Award, presented by Karen Healey, as the Prix des States Junior Jumper rider who best exemplified the American style of equitation, and the respectful, dignified, courteous, and workmanlike manner of a true sportsman.
